Uji coba pelican crossing di Stasiun Cikini, Jakarta Pusat

Pelican Crossing at Cikini Station Being Tested

The Jakarta government is conducting a trial of a pelican crossing at Cikini Station, specifically on Jalan Pegangsaan Timur, Menteng, Central Jakarta.

Let's try one solution

The trial was conducted in response to numerous complaints from train passengers who often jump over the fence to enter or exit the station.

Official access was previously only available on the north and south sides of the station, so some passengers chose to cut through by climbing over the fence in the central area. PT KAI had even raised the fence, but the habit still continued.

This trial review was attended by the Development Assistant Secretary of Jakarta, Afan Adriansyah, Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin, as well as representatives from related OPDs and PT KAI.

In the review, the Jakarta government wants to ensure that the pelican crossing solution can accommodate passenger needs while maintaining traffic order around the station.

Central Jakarta Mayor, Arifin explained this pelican crossing was created as a quick step to reduce passengers' habit of climbing over the barrier fence.

"Let's try one solution, which we will test today, by creating a pedestrian crossing for people entering and exiting the station with a temporary duration of about 10 to 12 seconds. We'll see how effective it is first, because the traffic here is quite heavy," he explained, Monday (9/15).

Besides regulating the duration of pedestrian crossings, the Jakarta Government also deployed officers from the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) and Satpol PP to anticipate other impacts of this trial.

The Dishub officers are responsible for regulating vehicle flow to prevent congestion or traffic jams, especially from public transportation. Meanwhile, the Satpol PP officers will ensure that the sidewalks remain orderly from street vendors who may disrupt pedestrian traffic.

This trial will last about a week before it is decided whether the pelican crossing will be made permanent or not.

"If this is effective, we will make it permanent. We accommodate all parties, including train users, KAI, and the surrounding residents. Insya Allah (God willing), hope there will be no more jumping, because it has been accommodated," he stated.
